White oak cheese block for mom

Summer 2016

Starting from a large white oak slab, I planed and book-matched two large sections of this beautiful white oak to make a large end-grain cutting surface. The handle pockets were cut using a Bridgeport mill. The name area was etched on a laser cutter. The piece had already been oiled with mineral oil when I used the laser cutter and instead of burning the surface, the etching vaporized a layer of wood, making a nice embossed finish.
