ALUMINUM BOW TIE

Having recently completed the training for the Haas CNC mills at Carnegie Mellon's mechanical engineering machine shop, I set out to test my skills at modeling, using computer aided machining, and CNC milling. The bow tie itself was relatively simple to machine although the thin walls required some extra care. The knots were all machined following the same bolt pattern and shape, but I changed the finishing pass to create the variety of designs you see in the pictures above. To achieve the final surface I used emery cloth, then bead blasted for the matte finish.
